Differences between Summer Color Types
What makes the Cool (True) Summer type different from other Summers? If you look at the image below, you can see that the most important aspect of the Cool Summer is coolness. Its colors are cooler, darker and more softer than the Light Summer. Compared to the Soft Summer, the defining factor is softness, as the colors of the Cool Summer are more saturated and less muted.

Cool Summer vs Cool Winter
A Cool (True) Summer and a Cool (True) Winter are both defined by cool undertones, but they differ in depth and contrast.
- Cool (True) Summer is soft, muted, and light-to-medium in value. It looks best in gentle, dusty colors like powder blue, rose, lavender, and soft gray. Overall, the effect is elegant, understated, and low-to-medium contrast.
- Cool (True) Winter is cool, deep, and high-contrast. It shines in crisp, saturated colors such as true black, pure white, cobalt blue, emerald, and fuchsia. The overall impression is bold, striking, and clear.
In summary: Cool Summer suits cool, muted, and softer shades, while Cool Winter is enhanced by cool, vivid, and high-contrast colors. The key distinction is softness versus clarity and intensity.

Cool Summer Make-up
Since you’re in a purely cool season, warm tones don’t fit you. Your make-up should highlight your natural soft, understated, elegant beauty. You don’t need a lot of makeup to achieve a natural look.
A nude pink lipstick combined with a rose blush and a subtle, light eyeshadow will be perfect. Use cool, silvery products, highlighters, powder. Instead of black, look for charcoal grey or soft dark blue mascara and eyeliner that will fabulously match your misty beauty.

Cool Summer Inspirations
The ethereal beauty of a Cool Summer is fabulously emphasized by misty and cool, soothing colors.

Cool Summer Color Palette
Cool Summer have the “classic” summer palette. The coolest colors of the three summers can be found here. At the heart of the palette are roses, taupe, Gainsboro and slate grey. Presented in classic watercolor pastel shades that convey elegance and a relaxed atmosphere. Other wonderful colors are bellflower, sea green, porcelain blue, silver, pink and purple. The palette is characterized by typical summer softness (as opposed to Cool Winter colors that are clearer and deeper). The best colors are cool shades, so blues and cool pink are heavily represented in the palette.

Cool Summer Neutral Colors
Your wonderful neutral colors are light, cool greys, taupe browns, slate and charcoal greys and navys. The closest colors to black are forged iron, and dark slate grey.

Cool Summer Best and Worst Colors
The best colors of Cool Summer are cool blush pinks, lavender purples, powder blues, and ocean greens.
Avoid dark colors, such as black and overly vibrant and saturated colors (neon yellow, scarlet red), and warm colors such as orange red, peach and saddle browns.

Cool Summer Color Combinations
Aim for a soft and elegant effect, avoid strong contrast. The most beautiful are the monochrome and analogous color combinations.

Cool Summer Wardrobe Palette
Slate grey is your staple, a great substitute for black or brown, neither of which suits you. You can easily find cool taupe and charcoal grey in stores all year round. You can also wear cool blush pinks, dusty burgundies and ocean greens from your own palette. You are lucky, denim blues are made for a Cool Summer!

Cool Summer Wardrobe
Think monochrome outfits or fine transitions. In addition to blue, pink, grey and pastel/powder shades are a wonderful choice. As a cool color type, cool-toned accessories are right for your outfit.

OFFICE WARDROBE
Build your office wardrobe in neutral colors: grey, off-white, dark blue, navy. However, always add a brighter or pastel color to your outfit! This way, the overall effect remains sophisticated and professional.
CASUAL WARDROBE
Your casual wardrobe depends on your personal style, it is difficult to give a general recommendation. You can’t go wrong with light blue, but navy can also be mixed wonderfully.
PARTY WARDROBE
Light neutral and blue evening dresses work fabulously. Especially if the dress is made of some luxurious material. However, you can also wear more colors: pink, purple, green, blue. Team your dress with neutral or tonal accessories!

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I only wear these colors?
Not at all! Wear what you love! You can choose from the colors of the sister palettes (Light Summer and Soft Summer). However, if you want to wear warm colors like orange or maroon, you can do that too. It’s not your colors, but the most important thing is confidence!
Should I avoid black?
Any season can wear black, but it’s not the best for the Cool Summer. Try to wear your own colors around your face. Team a black jacket with a soft colored scarf. Wear black jeans with a pastel toned top and so on.
I hate these colors, maybe that’s not my color type?
Yes, it is absolutely possible! Many of us are naturally attracted to our own colors, but this is not true for everyone. You may want to think about what you don’t like about your color palette. Light neutral, pastel colors? Or do you reject a color family (pink, purple, blue)? Don’t wear them! Just because your palette includes these colors doesn’t mean you have to wear them all. Personalize your color palette and wear only the shades you love!
My current wardrobe is different. What to do?
Transform your wardrobe step by step! I know we’re different, but I suggest you don’t rush. Your current wardrobe also took a lot of time and money to build. Get the most out of it!
To start your new wardrobe, I recommend checking out the current Dream Wardrobe shopping guide, it will make shopping much, much easier and more enjoyable.
