Soft Summer Palette and Wardrobe Guide
Soft Summer Color Type:
soft + cool
Soft Summer is one of the three Summer seasons.
Soft Summer is cool-neutral, quite light and very low chroma. The appearance of Soft Summers is smoky and mysterious. The complete lack of saturation washes away and mixes the colors.

Differences between Summer Color Types
What makes the Soft Summer type different from other Summers? If you look at the image below, you can see that the most important aspect of the Soft Summer is softness. Its colors are muted and darker than the Light Summer. Compared to the Cool Summer, the defining factor is coolness, as the colors of the Soft Summer are a little warmer and significantly duller.

Soft Summer vs Soft Autumn
Soft Summer and Soft Autumn are both muted, low-contrast color seasons, but they differ in undertone.
- Soft Summer is cool, muted, and understated, with colors like dusty blue, mauve, soft rose, sage, and taupe grey.
- Soft Autumn is warm, muted, and earthy, featuring shades such as khaki, moss green, terracotta, warm rose and light camel.
In short: Both palettes favor soft, subdued colors, but Soft Summer leans cool and smoky, while Soft Autumn leans warm and earthy.
The key distinction: cool vs. warm undertones. Soft Summer is flattered by cool, blue-based muted shades, whereas Soft Autumn looks best in warm, golden-based muted colors.

Soft Summer Make-up
Soft Summer is the most enchanting season. The essence of Soft Summer type means sophistication and vintage beauty. Your make-up should highlight your natural soft, dusky beauty.
You don’t need bright colors or a lot of make-up to achieve a natural look. You need matte natural makeup! Of the summers, the colors of the Soft Summer are the darkest, but the black eye makeup doesn’t work for you either. More beautiful is brown, navy blue, charcoal grey or taupe. You look amazing in smoky, blurry looks.

Soft Summer Inspirations
The smoky beauty of a Soft Summer is fabulously emphasized by cloudy and soft colors.

Soft Summer Color Palette
You can wear magical, vintage colors: cocoa, sage and heather-purple, and charcoal grey. This blurry, velvety quality is central to the palette, where any vibrant, saturated color would instantly absorb magic. Your color palette thus includes low-saturation, low/medium contrast, cool colors. Soft grey and blue, dark pink and lavender, and even light navy blue. Blue is central to the palette, but due to the effect of Autumn, greens and teal also appear. The yellows are often greenish and dirty pastel in color, a bit like a faint ray of light passing through the fog. Soft Summer palette includes many shades of grey and green. The colors are not clear, but complex and elusive, as if they consisted of many different shades.

Soft Summer Neutral Colors
Your wonderful neutral colors are bone whites, dusty greys, taupe browns and navys. The closest colors to black are dark steel and carbon greys, and raven.

Soft Summer Best and Worst Colors
The best colors of Soft Summer are dirty pastels, blush and dusty blues, and smoky greens.
Avoid dark colors, such as black and overly vibrant and saturated colors (neon yellow, cyber red, hot pink, fuchsia), and spring colors such as lime green and fresh tangerine.

Soft Summer Color Combinations
Aim for a soft and elegant effect, avoid strong contrast. The most beautiful are the monochrome and analogous color combinations.

Soft Summer Wardrobe Palette
Taupe and grey are a good starting point for building your wardrobe because these colors are usually easy to find in stores. If possible, do not use too much bright colors. Look for smoky, soft shades: orchid haze, blush pink, teal and soft sage green.

Soft Summer Wardrobe
The goal is the sophisticated and effortless effect. Dress in soft colors, choose low-contrast, delicate patterns! You can hightlight your beauty with the mix of light and dark shades. From the neutral color palette, you can safely wear off-white, taupe and grey shades.

OFFICE WARDROBE
Build your office wardrobe in neutral colors: grey, taupe, navy or green. However, always add a soft or pastel color to your outfit! This way, the overall effect remains sophisticated and professional.
CASUAL WARDROBE
Your casual wardrobe depends on your personal style, it is difficult to give a general recommendation. You can’t go wrong with blue, but grey, taupe and navy can also be mixed wonderfully.
PARTY WARDROBE
Soft neutral evening dresses work fabulously. Especially if the dress is made of some luxurious material, for example lace. However, you can also wear more colors: blue, purple, green. Team your dress with neutral or tonal accessories!

Soft Summer Jewelry
The beauty of a Soft Summer is higlighted by cool and warm colored jewelry. The point is that the finish should not be too bright. Sandblasted finishes are particularly good because they create soft shimmer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I only wear these colors?
Not at all! Wear what you love! You can choose from the colors of the sister palettes (Cool Summer and Soft Autumn). However, if you want to wear a bright color like hot fuchsia pink, you can do that too. It’s not your color, but the most important thing is confidence!
Should I avoid black?
Any season can wear black, but it’s not the best for the Soft Summer. Try to wear your own colors around your face. Team a black jacket with a soft colored scarf. Wear black jeans with a soft neutral toned top and so on.
I hate these colors, maybe that’s not my color type?
Yes, it is absolutely possible! Many of us are naturally attracted to our own colors, but this is not true for everyone. You may want to think about what you don’t like about your color palette. Light neutrals, greys, soft colors? Or do you reject a color family (purple, blue)? Don’t wear them! Just because your palette includes these colors doesn’t mean you have to wear them all. Personalize your color palette and wear only the shades you love!
My current wardrobe is different. What to do?
Transform your wardrobe step by step! I know we’re different, but I suggest you don’t rush. Your current wardrobe also took a lot of time and money to build. Get the most out of it!
